We care about your privacy. This policy describes what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it when you use the ShareCards app.

1. Who we are

ShareCards is a social app where you create and share "cards" tied to places, comment, vote, message other users, and follow people. When we say "we," "our," or "ShareCards," we mean the operator of the ShareCards app and services. ShareCards is operated by Nikhil Johns Sandipogu (individual developer).

2. Data we collect

We only collect data that is necessary to run the app and provide the features you use.

2.1 Account information

  • Email address (when you sign up with email)
  • Username and display name
  • Profile photo (if you add one)
  • Account preferences (e.g. private profile setting)

This is used to create and manage your account, show your identity to others on the app, and let you log in.

2.2 User content you create

  • Cards (notes) – text, place name, location, photos you attach, and visibility settings
  • Comments on cards
  • Direct messages and group messages you send
  • Votes (upvotes/downvotes) on cards

We store this so we can show your content, deliver messages, and run the feed, map, and messaging features.

2.3 Location data

  • Approximate or precise location (e.g. GPS) when you allow it – used to show your position on the map, suggest places, and show cards near you.
  • Location of places you attach to cards – so we can display cards on the map and filter by area.

We collect your location only when you use the app and grant permission. We do not continuously track or store your real-time background location.

2.4 Contacts (optional)

If you grant permission, we use your contacts only to help you find friends who are on ShareCards. We do this in a privacy-preserving way: we send hashed versions of contact identifiers to our servers — not raw phone numbers or emails. We do not store your raw contact list on our servers.

2.5 Identifiers and device data

  • Push notification token – so we can send you notifications (e.g. new messages, likes, comments).
  • Device/platform (e.g. iOS or Android) – to deliver the right kind of push notifications.

We do not use this data for advertising tracking or cross-app profiling.

2.6 Safety and moderation

  • Reports – when you report a card, comment, message, or user, we store the report for safety and moderation. Only authorized staff can access reports.
  • Block list – when you block a user, we store that relationship to hide their content from you.

3. What we don't collect

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not use your data for third-party advertising or ad targeting.
  • We do not track you across third-party apps or websites.
  • We do not collect or store your raw contact list; contact matching uses hashes only.

4. Why we use your data

We use the data above to:

  • Create and manage your account and profile.
  • Show cards on the map and in the feed, and deliver messages.
  • Let you follow users, comment, vote, and share content.
  • Send you in-app and push notifications you're entitled to.
  • Improve place search and suggestions.
  • Help you find friends on ShareCards using hashed contact matching.
  • Enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.

5. How we process and store your data

Hosting and databases: We use Supabase (and related infrastructure) to store and process account data, user content, messages, and notifications. Supabase acts as a service provider processing data on our behalf.

Security: We use industry-standard security including encryption in transit and access controls. Access to data is limited to what's needed to run the app and support safety.

6. Who we share data with

  • Service providers – We share data only with providers that help us run the app (e.g. hosting, databases, push delivery). They are required to use the data only for those purposes.
  • Other users – Your profile and the content you choose to share are visible according to the visibility settings you select.
  • Legal and safety – We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ShareCards, our users, or others.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

7. Data retention and deletion

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active.

Account deletion: You can request deletion of your account. When we delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your profile, user content, and associated data in line with our systems and legal obligations.

Content removal: You can delete individual cards, comments, or messages where the app allows. Deletion is permanent from our live systems.

8. Children

ShareCards is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Account and profile: You can update or delete your profile and content in the app.
  • Location: You can turn off location access in your device settings. Some features may not work fully without it.
  • Contacts: You can revoke contacts permission in device settings.
  • Push notifications: You can disable push notifications in device or in-app settings.

If you are in a region that gives you additional rights (e.g. access, correction, portability, restriction, or deletion), you can contact us and we will respond in line with applicable law.

10. Safety and moderation

We use reports and blocks to keep the community safe. When you report content or a user, we store the report for review. We may take action on accounts or content that violate our Terms or Community Guidelines.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy and change the "Last updated" date. If we make material changes, we may notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
